Moodle!  I am out of my mind crazy about Moodle!  I can use it in so many ways with my students.  I see other possibilities as well for business applications and training.  If I have free time these days, chances are you will find me building, editing, or studying Moodle!  I have two up and running.  Take a look at this video for more info about my Global Lab project!

Never say never!  I totally surprised myself this weekend when I launched my first Drupal site from scratch!  It took me a little bit of time, but I was able to get it!  These things really are not that difficult.  What is needed is time to experiment, some basic information sources, and the courage to do it!  I must admit that I was a little nervous when I hit the “launch” button, but it proved to be a success!

So~  Have a little courage!  You can do almost anything if you put your mind to it!

There is something really relaxing about sitting at Panera’s on a Sunday afternoon and contemplating the meaning of life and the week ahead.  I will admit that one of my flaws is my need to plan, plan, plan.  Both personally and professionally I have always used Project tracking programs, a PDA, my laptop, a pad in my purse or you name it to have a list of what I am to do.  My teaching is the same as well.  I am usually planning several weeks ahead and thrive on change.

One of the big differences I have seen between education and the business world involves the comfort level of change.  In business, it is all about change.  Your goal is to have the next new better approach or idea.  Education–not so much.  I am not sure if it is because the market is not as great of a factor, the tenure security system, or the nature of the folks who go into the field.  Do you agree?  Why are many educators so cautious?  Am I wrong?  Are we looking ahead with new ideas in the plan, or are we just copying the planbook from the year before?  I work with alot of teachers who are  interested in new and different approaches. I also see many who teach with the same method and lesson they had 10 years ago.

Does it matter?  How does this approach work in education, and not elsewhere?  Does it?

Hi!  I’m Sue Palmer, and this is my Blog!

As a teacher I have spent many hours sitting through meetings discussing programs and approaches as “educationally sound”. My fellow teachers are often throwing the term around as a basis for programs as well as an excuse to ignore some approaches. My Blog will focus on my views, and hopefully yours as well. I hope to engage in a discussion of issues relating to education and our goals in those areas. Somtimes heavy, sometimes light, but always relevant!
